The rumours are true!
Kelly’s Bake Shoppe has purchased 3 acre piece of beautiful property in Prince Edward County. We are SOOOO EXCITED to share this news with all of you!
We started looking for about two years now to find that perfect place to expand our brand beyond being located in Downtown Burlington. Through a ton of tire-kicking and and presenting leasing offers through various landlords, these deals just weren’t coming together for many crazy, various reasons. We were getting a bit frustrated to say the least and did our best to trust the process. The idea of creating a “destination” location with KBS #2 started to come into our consciousness last summer when we spent some time out in The County, for Erinn’s Bachelorette party, in August 2018.
This property suddenly came on the market during the winter season 2018/2019, in Prince Edward County, and we spotted it in March. We began the process of asking ourselves, “What would it look like to have a Kelly’s Bake Shoppe in Prince Edward County?” We had driven by this location 1 million times and LOVED it already. We began to plant the seeds of possibilities by opening our hearts to all that could be!
In late April, it was still on the market and we said, “What the heck! What do we really have to lose here?” The worst case scenario is that we would become property owners and then possibly turn into landlords if we decide it’s not going to work out. We also could simply put it back on the market too. After doing our month long due diligence of water inspections, septic tank inspections (LOL), building inspections and talking to the local folk, we were good! We were ready to firm up the deal and take it all on!
We became the owners of this incredible (!!) property in July 2019 and in August we opened for a POP UP weekend to a massive success of approximately 2000 people that stopped by for a visit.
Thank you to the Mayor, Steve Ferguson, the AMAZING local shop owners, and local restaurant owners, The Hagerman Farm (SO MUCH LOVE!) the wonderful residents, and visitors too. We were so well overwhelmed with gracious, kind words and heartfelt emotions. We are so grateful for you all! We had people drive in from Ottawa, Kingston, Montreal, Toronto, Burlington, Peterborough, New York State and more for our two day event….WOWZA! It looks like this is going to be a wonderful and simply beautiful place to hang our hats and share some love in this special place called, The County. What an honour this is.
