This is a guilt-free treat you will love, I promise. A delicious treat for Valentine’s Day for the kids and the other ‘big kids’ at home.

Talk about a twist of fun here. Is this really HEALTHY? Nutritious? Really??!
Most would say they’ve never thought of mixing ice cream with beet juice….Beet Juice?! With Vanilla Bean Coconut Milk Ice Cream? Yes, you’ve got to be crazy.

Beets help beat cancer, anemia, and urinary tract infections. It bolsters your blood with iron and keeps it fully oxygenated and this is a wonderful way to sneak it in to your diet.

The health-benefits of chocolate have been known to us for some time now, but there is more to chocolate that we need to know. Did you know that chocolate and cacao are NOT the same? True, there is a clear distinction between commercial grade chocolate which has NO health benefits and organic dark chocolate, ideally with no added sugar. Yet if you’re a chocolate lover, consider small amounts of raw cacao as a WAY better option.

The reason why raw cacao is the best choice for healthy benefits is because raw cacao contains the very popular antioxidants (anti-aging guys) that make raw cacao a Superfood. Cacao has never been processed in a way to destroy it’s nutritious components and has 400 times the antioxidants of “processed” cocoa or chocolate.

A ‘bliss‘ chemical found in cacao is the lipid anandamide. It’s there in our brain when we feel great. Anandamide is also called “chocolate amphetamine” as it causes changes in blood pressure and blood-sugar levels, leading to feelings of excitement and alertness. Yes, it makes us happy and blissful. The way I see it is, the better the quality of chocolate or cacao, the better the ‘feeling’ we will get.

So here’s my crazy recipe for a nutritious spin on an old-fashioned classic flavour.

Red Velvet Dairy-Free (almost raw) Milkshake:REd+Velvet+Smoothie+milkshake-300x300

  • 2 TBSP Cacao Nibs
  • 1 1/2 cups Beet juice
  • 1 cup Coconut Milk or almond milk or any other nut/seed milk
  • 1 frozen large banana (cut into pieces)

Preparation:

  1. BLEND Everything on high until smooth. Share with 2 others, maybe 3…. 🙂 or maybe NOT.

  1. Kelly, I have become such a huge fan of you! Within the past 6 months I decided to make nutrition/health/fitness some of the top priorities in my life. I went gluten free, and almost fully dairy free. Originally I was worried I would have to live on just "blah" foods and things I didn't like. Then I discovered Kindfood and found that the food is delicious, and in my opinion, way better than the other processed stuff. Then when your bakery opened I realized I can even still have my sweets, in moderation of course 😉 Thank you so much for sharing your incredible knowledge, I am so excited to continue learning more! This shake looks so delicious, I can't wait to try 🙂
