By definition: “Spiritual self-care is the activity we engage in to find and nurture a sense of connection to a Higher Power and meaning for our lives. … Regardless of where you find spiritual meaning, a certain amount of effort and discipline are necessary for establishing and maintaining spiritual nurturance.” Lately, I’m feeling more and more distant from my emails and Facebook and Instagram. I feel like I’ve shifted away from all the online ‘artificial life’ happening and it’s a feeling that I can’t seem to shake loose. How do you guys feel? My heart and soul are moving away from thinking that I need to be lulled into ‘digital la-la land’ or dialed into the ‘next big thing happening’ online. I don’t feel compelled to check out what everyone else is up to. I keep asking myself, “Am I enjoying this ride that is directing me on this journey to never-ending…

I was compelled today to share my story of my sexual assault by a sexual predator when I was 12 years old. It changed the course of my life. As women, we are not alone and this ‘opening up and sharing’ is what is needed to bring the power of women together. We have stayed quiet for far too long and the strength within us has been smouldering for centuries. We have hidden our scars for far too long. We need to bring to light these assaults in our rape culture, including patriarchal oppression, and only then can we move forward by releasing our pain and shame and hatred for ourselves. Finding self-love and then finding forgiveness will help us heal and to be able to keep shining our light into this world. We need to drop the shame and embrace our beautifulness in all we are. #MeToo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEtTirP_sSg With…

While in Victoria, BC last week, we went on a hike that turned out to be more of an adventure than we had planned. It made me re-visit my heart that is attached to Ken and Michael, more so than I had ever felt it before. This was the day Ken that had been looking forward to, for quite a while now. He was VERY excited to use his brand new drone, since we left Burlington the week before. He bought it to take some adventure footage travelling through Vancouver Island while we were here for two weeks. Erinn, Mike, Ken and I went out to do the beautiful Goldstream Trestle hike and, of course, Ken wanted to drone it from sitting on the trestle (of a height of 300’ over the tree tops). The scenery was spectacular. The view was epic. The 300′ height of the trestle over the…

Ashwagandha has been helping me for over 2 months now with hormone balancing, sleeping at night, and I swear, magically, minimizing my stress levels. (Ashwagandha is also known as Indian Ginseng, Poison Gooseberry, Winter Cherry, and Padalsingh). I had done some reading and research over the past few months regarding menopause and hormone fluctuations and the side effects of going into this age of “Goddess Wisdom” (it is what I call the transformation of women into their second (magical) half of their life). There is much talk about what women go through during menopause and some of it can frighten the strongest of us. I’m grateful that due to eating plant-based foods, dairy is not in my life, so I don’t have the bovine hormones to contend with that so many other people do.  Please know, this is one of the number one culprits to wreak havoc your hormonal balance. If you are…

– Let us Love Back in May 2010, when Kindfood opened its doors, I had no idea what my heart was getting into. For all of my life I have wanted to help others and to show them a better way of eating – without ‘processed foods’ or ingesting harmful toxins from animal-based foods and create a community or culture for all to enjoy. A little over a year earlier, in 2009, we birthed this massive passion within our family by going 100% plant-based (vegan) and it poured into my soul and into everyone else’s around me. It was so exciting! I was completely passionate about my thoughts and what I was learning about planet-based foods, Superfoods, and the truth about the big agricultural animal-based food industry. As a family, we all were fired up to spread the word, the passion and spread the love. Kindfood was born. Ken and I were…

After a little over a 5 hour direct flight to Liberia, Costa Rica, we found our way to Budget Rent-a-Car and got our SUV rental. With the GPS and Google Maps turned on our cell phone, we started our drive to the sleepy surf town called, Nosara. It’s about two hours to get to Nosara from Liberia and the drive takes you through some small towns (some with asphalt, some without), scattered farms, tico’s homes, little sodas (local restaurants) and the most prevalent event of the whole drive is the famous dirt roads. …Complete with bumps, holes, and more bumps and more potholes and when I say dirt roads, I mean “DIRT ROADS” and in the high season (from November until the beginning of May), it is very dry with no rain and that makes even more dirt (and yes, it is airborne and dirt is all over the trees, leaves, cars,…

Officially I’m now into my 50’s and feeling some trepidation about it and yet, I’m going to try to allow myself to feel it and do my best to ‘become’ it. There’s no point in fighting it, denying aging or trying to reverse the process of evolving into “middle-age” as it’s here to stay –  I may as well become comfortable with it. Each and every one of us has to deal with growing older every second, every minute, every day too so why not honour this delectable passage and privileged entrance into wisdom and grace and emerge as the butterfly we are meant to be. Every time I look in the mirror I look back at myself and it is tainted, in a slight way, of disbelief, “how did it happen so fast?” Then on to the bigger looming questions, “What have I done to change the world? And,…
